Alt text for different image types

All images in your text require an alt attribute. However, not all images require alt text or the same level of detail. Whether you need to add alt text and what the alt text contains depends on the following criteria:

• Whether the image is decorative or essential to the text.
• Whether the image contains text.
• Whether the image contents are explained in the surrounding body content.

📄️ Decorative images

Decorative images include any images whose only purpose is to add visual decoration to the page, rather than to convey information that is important to understanding the page. Examples of decorative images include backgrounds and line dividers.
